Exquisite Victorian Sailing Cherubs

In case you are a fairly new reader of Wings of Whimsy, you may not have caught that I’m a deltiologist? I collect cherub postcards from the Victorian and Edwardian eras. Not everything I post here is cherub postcards, but that remains my main source of antique ephemera πŸ™‚

I received these outstanding Victorian cards in the mail today,Β and I simply could not wait to share them with you! Stunning cherubs in little floral sail boats, with beautiful typography:

Wings of Whimsy - Sailing Cherubs #vintage #ephemera #freebie #printable #cherubs They are not postcards, since the originals are a quite a lot larger than standard postcards. They are glued together back to back, with original silk fringe sandwiched in between, so I have no chance of seeing what is on the backsides (if anything). My best guess is that these are greeting cards from the Victorian era. Here are the individual cards in low resolution:

* * * EDIT on March 8th:Β There seems to be a problem with downloading the collage sheet from my download folder. If you are also experiencing that problem, please leave a comment here (upon which I will receive notification with your email-address, and I’ll send you the collage sheet directly by email. I am very sorry, and hope this is a temporary issue with google drive, as this system has worked well for a long time 😦 * * *

My registered followers will find individual cards both with and without the silk fringe in the Exclusive folder. The cards are scanned in 600dpi, so these can be printed r-e-a-l-l-y large for instant wall art πŸ™‚

  1. Did something change? I wasn’t able to download from here or the confirmed followers spot today. Have a good rest of the weekend.

    1. Dear Nancy πŸ™‚ I have not changed anything, so this should be just the same as before :-O Please let me know what happens when you try to download? xoxoxo

      1. Everything is fine now. Thanks for your concern and thanks for sharing sooooo much. Have a Happy Easter too!!

  2. ooooh theyΒ΄re so gorgeous Gunn, really beautiful and soo cute for many diffferent things, I think. And I had absolutely no problems downloading them from both places, so I think, it must be your connection playing up Nancy. Try again a bit later, then it might work just fine. IΒ΄ve had the same problem a couple of times, but then if I go back and try again a little later, it just works like a dream. Sometimes the internet likes to teese us I think LOL. But thatΒ΄s just my thought ofcause. Have a wonderful sunday everyone.

    1. Thanks Maryann. I had to go through Google. Never had to do it before. Happy Sunday to all !!!

      1. I’m glad it worked out Nancy πŸ™‚ It should not be necessary to go through Google, I don’t know why this was a problem this time 😦

    2. Thank you so much Dear Maryann πŸ™‚ And thank you for the advice on downloading, I agree sometimes Internet is acting up for no reason 😦 In general I wish I did not have to put the pictures in the google download folder, but I’m running out of space here on WordPress 😦 So this is the best way I can share my pictures with ya’ll…:-P xoxoxo

      1. CanΒ΄t you then maybe move the older ones over to the Google download folder after a while, and then just keep the newest ones here? Then if someone new comes in, they can just go to the Googlefolder to find all the older ones there? ItΒ΄s not something I know anything about, just a thought, that it could be a way, but donΒ΄t know, if itΒ΄s possible thoug.
Just glad if I could be to any help for anyone here, itΒ΄s a small thanks for all youΒ΄re doing for all of us.

  3. Hey my love, I tried downloading the pics but for some reason I can’t…… I just love these, the colours match my dΓ©cor in my meditation/craft room, I was looking for a couple of small pics to frame and hang by my computer and these are my choice, the blues and pinks are perfect!

    1. Sweetie, please tell me where you run into troubles, as it seems others have had issues with these as well? Can you get to the download folder when you click on the download button? If yes, what happens next? And what browser are you using? I’m standby to trouble shoot according to your answer! xoxoxo

      1. Can you download any other images from the folder, other than the sailing cherubs? And what browser are you using? Sorry to bother you Hunny, but I need to figure out why these particular files are acting up…:-O

  4. I think the fringed cards are actually calling cards. Perhaps these are samples? A person would have their names printed on the back and they’d leave them when they payed a call on someone. Check this site out and see if it matches what you have.

    1. Dear Wanda πŸ™‚

That would be so awesome, if I (accidentally) got my hands on the actual original calling card samples! I’d love to check out the site you are referring to, can you please post the link for me? xoxoxo

    1. Thank you very much Hunny! I belive you are right indeed, that these are calling cards, and i also think it likely my set is the salesman samples πŸ˜€

I d-i-d pay almost 35 US$ for these, which for my budget is quite steep, but the minute I saw the cards I knew I had to have them in my collection. And in hindsight, I probably bought them cheap!! The original size is 7 3/4 X 5 1/2 inches and all 4 cards are connected, as you can see from the original ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/221367550325?_trksid=p2050601.m570.l4467&_trkparms=gh1g%3DI221367550325.N19.S2.M-21102.R5.TR8

Thank you for the added information, I really appreciate it πŸ˜€ I am so, so very happy to be able to share such a special treasure with ya’ll πŸ˜€ I’m definitely going to frame these myself (not the originals, I could never bear to cut them apart!) so I’ll be looking for just the right frames to compliment these beautiful Cherub images of high Victoriana πŸ˜€
