BONHEUR Embroidered French Garland

I have had a blast with mixing paper printables and embroidery lately, and here is the latest design, a French Garland spelling out the word BONHEUR (happiness):

Wings of Whimsy: BONHEUR French Embroidery Garland #vintage #ephemera #printable #freebieI found some gorgeous pages from a Vintage Embroidery booklet, and I knew I had to utilize them 🙂 The result looks like the whole flags are embroidered, even if in fact I only embroidered the letters 😀

I spent maybe 10 minutes per letter, so this whole project will be completed in maybe 1,5 hour 😀

 INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Print the flags onto matte photo paper (mine is 170g paper) or cardstock
  2. Use a needle of something sharp to pierce all the white dots
  3. The red dots are guidelines to show you the symbols, they should all be covered with an X (one stitch)
  4. Embroider with floss or thin crochet thread
  5. Cut out the flags.
  6. String and hang.
  7. TA-DAH: Vintage Embroidered Cuteness 🙂

Here are the seamless tiles I created for the flags, they can of course be used to make papers or to cover any digital design you need:

  1. More beauty here today hun, they´re sooo beautiful and really put my mind all back to childhood, as I´m very sure some of these patterns were among those my mum always used, when she knitted these thick warm Norwegian sweaters for us, when we were kids and had to ride 7 km on our bikes to get to school in the winters, and as a matter of fact, I´m very sure I had one with one of these patterns on here, so it just put me on a trip down Memory Lane with both good and less good memories about those winter rides, so thanks a lot for that too ha ha ha.
These banners here would look awesome in other colors for a wedding or a birthdayparty as well, just utilized to fit the celebration in the colors, but keeping the beautiful patterns, they look amazing.
Hope you´re having a wonderful sunday and lots of fun. I´m awaiting my girls here any time now, where they´ll stay for a week, while their mum is reading up to her final exam next friday, so guess we´re planning for more kidfriendly crafting this week, but they might love to make a banner for their rooms too, who knows with kids? ha ha ha

    1. Haha, I can only imagine you biking with those sweaters, I know exactly what you mean… I too think these patterns resemble the Norwegian knitting styles, although these are vintage French patterns 😛 It’s my nephews 10th birthday today, and I just printed out one of these banners with all flags on one sheet of paper (very small) and added his letters on bottle caps in stead of the embroidered letters, so this banner can be used without the embroidery too 😀 Enjoy your week with the girls Hunny 🙂
