Another idea for May 17th, the Norwegian National Day, and all that flag colored ribbon the stores are offering, is combining a rosette with a sash:
This sash is made from 5cm wide ribbon, here modeled by my oldest daughter Guro (age 12).Easy peasy, and makes for a fabulous look on the National Day 😀
The rosette pins the sash in place up on the shoulder:
While the little bow with bells I made pins it together down on the hip:
I also made a wide sash, which my youngest daughter Torunn (age 11) is modelling; she insisted on a serious, regal attitude. 😛
I used a 10cm wide ribbon and cut it to size with serrated scissors, then used one of my rosettes without hanging ribbons to pin the sash together.
Although my sister commented that the wide sash might be too much, more fit for the Mayor, maybe…lol! (Note to self: I must remember to iron the sash before wearing it, to remove the creases from the winding!)

For May 17th 2013, I shared a Norwegian Flag Garland, which you can make to decorate for a May 17th party (click on one of the images below to go to the original post):

I have included an updated 2015 version in the download folder. 😉
If you are curious about my Pretty Data project, and interested in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, please get in touch, as I’m still hoping to sign up more helpers with my project! Warning: you’d have to be pretty crazy about imagery, somewhat interested in history, and have a (more or less secret) crush on royalty!…lol
