I made this set for my friend Maryann! My girls and I are currently visiting her in Denmark, and Maryann and her lovely granddaughters got these tags with their little gifts 🙂

And here they are to share with you too! Remember to take a peak at my conversion chart, if you’d rather want these in different sizes, to fit your circle punches or projects:

All Cherubs on Deck!

You might have noticed that there is a couple of cherubs on my deck? I thought I might as well give you a tour of those too 😀

(All photos in this post are clickable, if you want to zoom in on the details!)

Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! Zaz hovers under the roof of my canopy. She is the oldest one, the biggest one and the only one airborne. So I suppose she is in charge of the rest 🙂

Zaz is named after the artist, with the most amazing voice, and French songs! Her music motivated me during the long lasting painting of the garden furniture in the rain! If you have not heard her, I strongly recommend the following titles for starters (click to listen):

Zaz: Je veux

Zaz – Eblouie Par La Nuit

You already met Bella, Cupid and Psyche, when i presented the new Rain Chain

Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! And you said hello to Falco when I showed you the new lamp shades 🙂 Falco is of course also named after the artist with the same name, listen to his classic and never forgotten songs, the very first album I ever bought at age 15 in 1985 (click to listen):

Falco – Jeanny
Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck!

Eilland was the first cherub on my deck, he moved in almost 10 years ago, and has been here ever since. He does not mind a little rust, and is very proud to have been assigned with keeping watch over the solar lights in this thrifted, once brass, candelabra, now painted white and paired with thrifted lamp globes 🙂 Eilland is  named after one of the main persons of a traditional Norwegian folk song, played by the band Gåte (click to listen):

Gåte – Sjå attende

The lovers Bendik and Årolilja are another pair I have had for a few years. They are also named after a traditional Norwegian folk song, again I really like the revamped Gåte version (click to listen):

Gåte – Bendik og ÅroliljaWings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck!

I try to tell Rosanna she is not a cherub, but she absolutely refuses to listen to me! She has her name from another immortal song from the early 80ies (click to listen):

Toto – Rosanna

And this is of course Madonna, no introduction should be necessary, but I would like to share one of my favorite songs by her (click to listen):

Madonna – Live to tell

Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! I named this cutie Me, just to make sure! (Click to listen.)

Madonna – She’s Not Me

Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck! Then there is Sade, named probably after my all time favorite artist, I can listen to her 24-7 and never grow tired of her beat, her sound, her groove (click to listen):

Sade – The Best Of Sade
Wings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck!

This precious little cherub was a gift from my friend Mibrak, so of course she carries her name! And since she is Eritrean, I would like to share some Eritrean folk music (click to listen):

Traditional Eritrean Folk MusicWings of Whimsy: All Cherubs on Deck!

And finally this last little cherub carries the name Britt. She is named after the best Norwegian traditional fiddler there is, and of course she is from my home town Hornindal. If you don’t click on any other of my quite international and varied music memories, please listen to this one, it is the music I grew up with, so beautiful, and magical, and mysterious all at once (click to listen)!

Britt Pernille Frøholm – Rik du er & Om kvelden

So there you have all Cherubs on Deck, paired with some of my favorite music 😀

The Deck Reveal: Part II – After

For those of you who read my posts regularly, you will know that the last few weeks (months!) I have been crafting for my deck. I am so happy now to finally reveal my revamped deck to ya’ll!

Yesterday we looked at the BEFORE pictures, and today we are ready for the AFTER pictures!

July 11th, all the major crafts I had planned are complete:

(All photos in this post are clickable, if you want to zoom in on the details!)

Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

This is a view if the covered area of the deck, where I have put a daybed with pillows and blankets. A nice spot to snuggle, either in the sun or in the rain. My sisters two youngest children were early summer guests this year, and together with my two girls the four of them took turns sleeping outside, rotating one night each 😀 This might also be my favorite spot to take an afternoon nap, enjoy a cup of tea, or reading a book.

Our cats Tiger (left) and Løve (right) enjoy the shade on the revamped deck.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

Turning slightly left you can see the covered nook, and how the canopy is placed.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

The view from inside the canopy looking towards the daybed.

And here is the view from the side of the daybed, towards the kitchen door. And the cats don’t even bother watching me when I move around to take the pictures…lolWings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

The view towards the south, the town of Volda landmark, the mountain “Rotsethornet”, not a very tall mountain, on the  Norwegian scale 😛Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

And this is the view of the canopy seen from the other corner of the deck. I love that shadow, we never had that mid day, before the canopy 🙂Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

And this is the canopy head on, as it looks from my kitchen window, and stepping out onto the deck. Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

And a closer look inside the canopy. I chose to hang the lace curtains with some of my Decoupaged Clothespins, because I was not happy with the black net that came with the canopy, especially since I plan to keep those two walls closed at all times for privacy…:-P This view also offers the whole group of 5 chairs and table, painted with my Home Made Chalk Paint, the sewn Cushion Covers, the Mason Jar Band & Ribbon Mobile, the sewn Bunting Flags, and the Lamp Shades.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

Then there is of course the entrance door, where you can enter onto the deck directly without coming through the house, with the Zinc Tray Door Sign I made with, “Sol i hjertet” meaning “sun in the heart”, I guess that is a good description of how the new deck makes me feel, counteracting the fact that we barely had sun or summer temperatures at all so far this season…  And worthy of being the name of my new deck (thanks Obie for giving me that idea)!Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

And this is what you see when you open the door to enter “Sol i hjertet” 🙂Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

I even tidied the nook for a photo…lol I use this area for drying clothes during the summer, and for storage during the winter time. This is where the garden furniture will go into winter hibernation.

And some details:

The corner with the entrance door, I love the  barn style of it 🙂 And two more Seed Catalog Outdoor Pictures.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

Under one of the kitchen windows I have put this café set with two cast iron chairs and a table, they are brand new, but will be left out all year, so I expect they will roughen up a bit over the years 🙂 In the top corner of this picture you can see one of the Vintage Labeled Cans I made.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part II - AFTER

Inside the canopy is another peak of the Fiddler Garden Picture  and two more Can Planters 🙂

And let’s not forget Bella with her Tart Tins Rain Chain and Suncatcher 🙂

Both cats seem very happy too with the new deck

Løve (Lion) relaxes on the new garden furniture 🙂

I had a celebration all alone, when I had completed all my major projects.

I’m now planning a party in August, combining my birthday celebration with a deck warming party! 😀

And I still have to share my candle making projects with you!

I have sun, I have shade, I have shelter and I have privacy! YAY, I’m very happy with how this project turned out 😀 😀 😀

If you read this post all the way here, please let me know what YOU think about my revamped deck!

The Deck Reveal: Part I – Before

For those of you who read my posts regularly, you will know that the last few weeks (months!) I have been crafting for my deck. I am so happy now to finally reveal my revamped deck to ya’ll!

We’ll start out today with some BEFORE images!

May 18th, the empty deck, cleaned and ready to decorate!

(All photos in this post are clickable, if you want to zoom in on the details!)

Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREWings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREWings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREMy deck is approximately 50 square meters, and a little part of it is covered with acrylic roofing. There is also a small nook, where it always stays dry, no matter how tough the winter storms are.

The flooring needs a new coat, but I postponed that until next year!

You might not believe this, but the last few years I have not used my deck much… due to several factors: there is no shelter from the wind when it comes from the south (and it often does), there is no shelter from the hot sun when it is actually out, my garden furniture were getting so, so gross, and perhaps the most important reason: the big window on the corner of my deck is the neighbor’s tv-room, so really no privacy.

I had considered placing a big plant in that corner, or even building a permanent wall, but then my sister said: why not get a canopy? It turned out to be the perfect solution!

So here are the girls and I building the canopy:

The Canopy is 3x4m and covers the neighboor’s tv-room window perfectly! YAY for my sister, YAY for my girls and YAY for me!Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFORE

The deck is on top of the garages, facing south.Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFORE

And here are the old garden furniture, before I started working on them. A sad, sad bunch!

Stay tuned for the AFTER photos tomorrow 🙂

DIY Glamping Canopy – Part II

Another must in a Glamping Canopy is of course lights! I dressed up my LED party lights with little lamp shades: (Glamping = glamorous camping)

(All photos in this post are clickable, if you want to zoom in on the details!)

Wings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructions

Wings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructions

Here is the how-to:

Use big clear plastic cups for the shades, I bought mine at the dollar store, they are meant for beer…:-P Make sure the cups are large enough to slip over your bulbs if you are using them for party lights 🙂 Since the plastic cups are all different, you will have to make your own template. The trick is to use some scrap paper and to keep tweaking it until it fits. Then I copied my paper template onto a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box) to be able to easily trace around it.

I traced it onto my Tilda fabric and tried my best to use the fabric as fully as possible, thus you can see that I traced a couple of times for the best fit… 😛 I recommend not using a graphical pattern for these, since the fabrics “twists”, but a pretty floral pattern will work great 🙂

Wings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructions

I cut slits in the bottom of the cup, to be able to slip it over the bulbs. You can make these with smaller plastic cups if you want to use a string of LED fairy light, then you can also cover the bottoms with a round piece of fabric, and just cut an X to insert the LED light.Wings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructions

I started out taping the bottom to avoid it from breaking uncontrolled when I cut it, but found out this was not necessary, so ignore the tape 😛 If you want to use tape, remember to remove it before the next step, so it’s not caught under the fabric.

I then applied mod podge to my cups using a foam brushWings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructionsI attached the fabric and applied a coat of mod podge on top to seal everything nicely.
Wings of Whimsy: DIY Glamping Canopy #diy #lamp #shades #instructions

When the little shades were dry, I glued some white pom-pom trim onto each shade with my glue gun, to cover the rim, and make them look a-doooh-rable! 3 m of trim was just enough to cover 11 of these shades 🙂 And finally just push the lamp shade up over the bulb, the plastic “star” will act as hooks and keep the shade perfectly in position 😀

Since my string of party lights has 10 bulbs, I had one last shade to use, and lo and behold: it fit perfectly over a solar cell garden light 😀 And the clear top should allow for the solar cell to charge during the day 😀

So now Falco is happy too 🙂 He used to be a forlorn brass candle holder at the thrift store, but I took him home and painted him too with my home made chalk paint 😀 He loves it, and says he now feels like a Greek statue 😀 😀 😀
