The Deck Reveal: Part I – Before

For those of you who read my posts regularly, you will know that the last few weeks (months!) I have been crafting for my deck. I am so happy now to finally reveal my revamped deck to ya’ll!

We’ll start out today with some BEFORE images!

May 18th, the empty deck, cleaned and ready to decorate!

Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREWings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREWings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFOREMy deck is approximately 50 square meters, and a little part of it is covered with acrylic roofing. There is also a small nook, where it always stays dry, no matter how tough the winter storms are.

The flooring needs a new coat, but I postponed that until next year!

You might not believe this, but the last few years I have not used my deck much… due to several factors: there is no shelter from the wind when it comes from the south (and it often does), there is no shelter from the hot sun when it is actually out, my garden furniture were getting so, so gross, and perhaps the most important reason: the big window on the corner of my deck is the neighbor’s tv-room, so really no privacy.

I had considered placing a big plant in that corner, or even building a permanent wall, but then my sister said: why not get a canopy? It turned out to be the perfect solution!

So here are the girls and I building the canopy:

The Canopy is 3x4m and covers the neighboor’s tv-room window perfectly! YAY for my sister, YAY for my girls and YAY for me!Wings of Whimsy: The Deck Reveal - Part I - BEFORE

And here are the old garden furniture, before I started working on them. A sad, sad bunch!

Stay tuned for the AFTER photos tomorrow 🙂

  1. WAUW what an amazing place here. I absolutely LOVE that huge deck, you have here, and I can´t wait to see the after pictures now, as I´m very sure, they´ll be amazing after seing all your gorgeous creations here the last weeks, so I´m very sure, it´ll be perfect. And what a great way to cover up for the neighbours with the canopy here, and it even looks awesome and schild for the wind as well, so it´s a totally win win situation, well thought of your sister and an aaaaamazing job from all of you girls there. I might dig out a few projects here, that needs to be done until you come around ha ha ha. Well don´t worry, I think, we havea it all covered up by now here too ha ha ha. Have a great sunday now and lots of fun.

    1. Yes, it is big, and the size has almost amplified the problem with lacking privacy… but no more now, I have reclaimed the deck for myself, and actually taken a corner into use that I never ever even sat foot on before with the canopy 😀 😀 😀 xoxoxo
