Vintage Milk Glass Jar Advent Calendar

Every time I’ve visited the local thrift stores over the last 3 years, I have been looking to score these vintage milk glass jars:

The quality resembles Pyrex; the red Norwegian Folklore decor is burned onto the glass, and they keep amazingly well! The weak spot on these seems to be the plastic lid… 😛 Each jar is about 16,5cm tall (approx 6,5″), so quite large, larger than regular table size spice jars, more like the vintage spice sets you would use in a pantry.

I have finally collected enough of these jars to use them for my homemade Milk Glass Jar Advent Calendar – which was my goal with collecting them in the first place:

I was planning to put the jars up on the open wall shelves I have in my kitchen, but maybe I’ll keep tweaking the setup on my old side table until I’m happy with it, and just leave them there 🙂

The ones sealed with washi tape on the lids are already filled, with little gifts and sweet treats for counting down to Christmas, starting December 1st. I still need to fill a few more, but I think I have covered at least the first week, buying myself a little extra time…lol

Would you like to create your own Jar Advent Calendar but don’t have a full collection of 24 vintage milk glass jars? (Who does…except one crazy Norwegian…lol) I say this is a pretty obvious idea for regular mason jars too, just line them with some red paper, or wrap your little advent gifts and treats in red tissue paper before inserting them into the jars 🙂 I can even envision placing the jars under the Christmas tree, if you set it up as early as December 1st 🙂

In case you want to make your own Jar Advent Calendar, or just fancy my White Heart Tags, I have included a sheet so you may make your own:

  1. Dear Gunnvor Karita; I just love your beautiful ideas and photos which show up in my email box each morning! I’m usually so busy I neglect to tell you, but I really appreciate all you share with us! I love those red and white jars. My family and I visited Oslo Norway way back in 1999 and always meant to return, but alas, haven’t done so yet. Thanks so much for all the ideas and printouts you share. I’ve saved a few of them to my computer files. One day I’ll get around to making something! Happy Advent!

    1. Norway is waiting for you!!! 😀 If you enjoyed Oslo, you will LOVE the rest of Norway 😉 You have not really seen Norway’s true beauty until you have visited Western Norway, preferably in the late springtime when the apple trees are blossoming, or the lilacs in early summer! And the light, sigh, the light is magical! Mid June, come then 🙂 And please let me know, and I’ll give you some great pointers where to go and what you MUST see 🙂 I’m smack in the middle of Fjord-Norway, so I have easy access to it all…lol Check out my post from the mountains here: https://wingsofwhimsy.wordpress.com/2013/10/23/a-taste-of-norway-climbing-hornindalsrokken-peak/
You do not have to climb them, they are impressive and wonderful from below too…lol

Thank you so much for the lovely comment about my posts! I’m happy you enjoy receiving my whimsies, please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything in particular you would like me to share. My post today about the scissors came about after a follower asked me to share my tools and tips for fussy cutting 😉 I understand I have to work even harder to come up with a project that you simply can not resist!!! 😀 😀 😀 Happy Advent to you too 🙂 xoxoxo
