Next to being a creative crafter, a whimsical designer, a compassionate lover of all things vintage, and an avid researcher, I’m also a deltiologist!
A deltiologist collects and studies postcards. Deltiology is said to be the third largest collecting hobby, after stamps and coins/banknotes. I initially started collecting postcards since they are genuine pieces of art from the Victorian and Edwardian eras, that I can actually afford, and because I simply love the little images!
I started out collecting only (winged) cherubs, thus most of my postcards are Valentine, Easter or Christmas postcards. I have since expanded in various direction, I have many cards now with children, I have purchased a few Real Picture Postcards (RPPs) with both cherubs and children. I also have a few greeting cards (which are larger/other sizes) and some trade cards, which generally are older than most postcards, but with advertisements on them. I have also not been able to bypass all the beautiful Rose-themed postcards out there, nor all the gorgeous Hearts.
If I must categorize my collection with only one word i choose: ROMANTIC! Not in the love & sex “everyday” meaning, but in the sense that I value and augment: “the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized” 🙂
My complete Romantic Collection counts well over 1000 different items, and after 4 years of blogging, I have still shared only a small part with you. Thus I have decided to scan and share a selection for you this Valentine Season 😀
